The Vampire Shrink

Review: 8/10

In an earlier article I mentioned that I met author Lynda Hilburn at the Sirens Convention in Denver, Colorado. While there I purchased the first of the series of The Vampire Shrink Books. The following is a review as well as some links to trailers for the books.

Synopsis:

Kismet Knight is a psychologist who lives in Denver, Colorado. She has lived the basic life of a strong independent female professional. She has had a few unsuccessful relationships and as most professional women has been "focusing" on her career rather than on herself or her career.

One day a young goth vampire wannabe teen named Midnight comes into Dr. Knight's office and begins to introduce her to the world of the vampire. She is thrown into a world that most mortals never know about or want to know.

Because of the police investigation, she meets FBI profiler, Alan Stephens as well as 800 year old vampire Devereux. She is torn between both worlds as well as her feelings for each.

Analysis:
This book is full of adventure, romance, and humor. Mrs. Hilburn addresses everyday items while making her world connect to ours. Kismet Knight is a wonderful professional female character that is very independent and tough while maintaining her femininity. This book only begins to tempt our taste buds for more stories of the Denver Vampire Shrink.

It is refreshing to have a literary character that embodies and symbolizes intelligence and independence over looks and sex appeal. Kismet shows that even smart professional women can have a good time. There is just the perfect mix of romance, mysticism, mystery, and humor to make this a joyful read.
Dark Harvest, the second in this series, should be a treasure to read.

The local college book clubs have used her books as a way to introduce a more "adult" vampire story into their book clubs. This is a different story than the Twilight stories..it's for older readers who are still looking for romance and mystery.
